The answer is Lamar is in the physiological needs level. This level is the basis of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and comprise survival needs for instance the need for food, air, sleep, and reproduction. These needs are the necessities we all need independently for human existence.

The phrase "were just making ends​ meet" already indicates that Lamar is already having a really tough time trying to buy even the physiological needs that he must provide for himself and his family. Therefore, he is in the first stage of Maslow's hierarchy of needs which is physiological needs.
