There were some people on a train. 19 people get off the train at the first stop. 17 people get on the train. Now there are 63 people on the train. How many people were on the train to begin with?

Answer: 65

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's work backwards. Start with 63.

17 people get on. This would be represented as +17, but because we're going backwards, it would be the opposite, -17. Subtract: 63-17. We get 46.

19 people first get off. Again, this would be represented as -19, but the opposite of that would be +19.

Finally, do 46+19 to get 65 Hope this helps! :)
