How can you prove that CFLs contain mercury vapor?

*I'm looking for a good answer using the Flame Test, and I'd like it soon!

Respuesta :

Using sulphur oxidizing bacteria and bio trickling filters, the mercury from CFL lights can be removed. With these two techniques, we can remove 99% of the mercury from CFL bulbs. However, this procedure is quite expensive in comparison to the thermal method for mercury extraction.

What is mercury ?

The chemical element mercury has the atomic number 80 and the symbol Hg. In the past, it was known as hydrargyrum, a compound of the Greek terms hydor and argyros, and quicksilver.

Invisible ultraviolet (UV) light is produced by mercury and argon gases inside CFLs when power is applied. The white, visible light you see when you turn on a CFL is created when this UV light interacts with the fluorescent coating.

Mercury is present in a number of different light bulbs. These light sources include high-pressure sodium lamps, straight fluorescent tubes, and compact fluorescent lamps.

Thus, this procedure is quite expensive in comparison to the thermal method for mercury extraction.
