When there are no physical obstacles stopping any members of a species from mating with another and all members are close to one another, sympatric speciation takes place. The most frequent way for this speciation occurrence to happen is by polyploidy, in which a offspring or group of off springs will be born with twice as many chromosomes as is typical.
