The distance to the Andromeda Galaxy would be about 6 km
A galaxy is a system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar of the gas, dust, dark matter, bound together by gravity. The word is derived from the Greek galaxias, literally by thd 'milky', a reference to the Milky Way galaxy that contains the Solar System.
The distance to the Andromeda Galaxy would be about 6 km. The two galaxies are about 2.5 million light-years apart. That means it takes 2.5 million years for light to travel from one galaxy to the other. It's amazing to think that light from Andromeda is just now reaching us, when it left 2.5 million years ago. The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are expected to collide in about 4 billion years.
