Although some people view humility as a weakness, it is actually the belief that something greater than oneself exists.

What is humility?

Humility is the value of being humble. According to dictionary definitions, humility is defined as a low self-esteem and sense of worthlessness. In a religious frame of reference humility can presume a recognition of self with respect to a deity, and subsequent submitting to that deity as a member of that faith. In a non-religious religious context, humility is described as "unselved," a liberation from self-consciousness, a type of temperance that is neither pride nor self-deprecation.

Humility is an outward manifestation of an appropriate inner, or self-esteem, as opposed to humiliation, which is the imposition of shame on a person, often externally.  It may be misinterpreted as the ability to undergo humiliation through self-deprecation, which in turn keeps the focus on self instead of low self-focus.
