Who were the Goblins?

The Goblins were weird creature that was described by Tolkien in his book, The Hobbit. The descriptions of these creatures reveal that they were crude and used technology for the wrong reasons.

Some of these descriptions also give some insight into the perspective of the author in regard to technology. Their use of technology for destructive purposes pointed to their evil nature and disposition.
