The mammoth is an animal that was once extinct and belonged to the genus Mammuthus and the family Elephantidae which included the proboscidians. Elephants differ from mammoths in that mammoths had their bodies covered with hair. Also, elephants are slightly smaller than mammoths.

What are the differences between the mastodon and the elephant?

Both were herbivores, but the mastodons had conical-shaped teeth designed to crush leaves and branches more easily. Mammoths had rough molars, allowing them to cut through vegetation and graze like modern elephants.
