When it comes to global warming, some of its associated effects include rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and melting glaciers.

Global warming

Global warming refers to the rise in the average global temperature as a result of an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Burning of fossil fuels increases the level of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and oxides of sulfur in the atmosphere. These gases form a radiation absorbing blanket over the atmosphere and prevent reflected radiation from the sun from returning back to space.

The increase in global temperature results in the melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers with the water being discharged into the various seas of the world. Thus, causing a rise in their normal levels.

Increase in global temperature also causes extreme weather events such as drought, flooding, etc, as a result of erratic climate.
