This virus originated with Kenyan sheep farmers in 1931.
It is spread by handing diseased animal tissue, drinking infected milk or mosquito bites. Around
8% of those infected get ocular disease, brain inflammation and could eventually die.
Eastern equine encephalitis is an extremely rare but serious and often fatal infection that causes encephalitis or inflammation of the brain. It is spread by the bite of a mosquito infected with EEE virus (EEEV).
