Janga Bahadur Kunwar began the Rana dynasty when he came to power in 1846 from the Kot massacre where 36 members of the palace court including the Prime Minister and a relative of the King named Chautariya Fate Janga Shah, were murdered.

Queen Rajyalakshmi was upset and plotted to kill Jung Bahadur but the plot was revealed.

After the exile and plot to regain power, Rajendra Bir Bikram Shah with his zero governance policy gave room for others to run the show and this bad leadership caused the chaos that killed hundreds of political and military leaders and this led to a revolt.
