The annexation of Texas would help the United States accomplish its goal of Manifest Destiny.

Cons: The annexation of Texas could spark a war with Mexico.

The annexation of Texas, a slave state, would disrupt the balance of free and slave states in the United States.

The U.S. government presented this proposal to Texas. The Republic of Texas president, Anson Jones, presented the offer of annexation to the Texas Constitutional Convention. The proposal was approved by the Convention on July 4, 1845. In October 1845, the Texas voters overwhelmingly approved both annexation and the proposal to create a new state constitution. In December 1845, the U.S. House and Senate voted to annex Texas. On December 29, 1845, President James Polk signed the joint resolution and Texas became the 28th state admitted to the United States.

I think that there are pros and cons about the annexation of the Republic of Texas into the United States. One of those pros being that in case Mexico decided to attack again even after the war, it wouldn't be just Mexico against Texas.

Another pro, is that annexing the Republic of Texas into the United States would expand the United States territory by a considerable amount, adding to the idea of Manifest Destiny, created by John L. O'Sullivan.

There are still some cons though, such as it would upset the balance between slave states and free states. It could spark another war between the United States and Mexico.

Overall , I do think that adding the Republic of Texas into the United States is the best choice.
