The united States legislature is the part of the government that was created to reflect that governments get their powers from the consent of the governed.
The consent of the governed is a political idea in the US that illustrates that the government of a country can only use its powers justifiably and lawfully if they given the consent to do so by the people in the country.
The will of the citizens is described to be the basis of where the government gets its authority from.
This idea was adopted from the British philosopher John Locke.
