1.What traditions or practices in your community do you feel may influence unhealthy behaviors? What practices within your community may influence healthy behaviors?
2.Memory Banda fought against the cultural norms in her community and was able to get a law passed to change the legal marriage age for girls in Malawi. If you could change a law or create a new law relating to health within your community, what would it be? What would you hope to accomplish with your new or changed law?
3.How do you feel that our perception of beauty is influenced by the media in our country? Do you feel that as a model giving a TED talk about “looks aren’t everything” that Cameron Russell should have addressed this more?
4.How might this unrealistic perception of beauty portrayed by the media negatively impact the physical and emotional health of young adults and teens? How does Cameron Russell address this when talking about how the media retouch photos and showing photos of herself as a child?
5.What do you think the dream of becoming a model is like for young girls who perhaps did not “win the genetic lottery” as Cameron Russell says? Do you agree with her comment, “Barring surgery, or the fake tan that I got two days ago for work, there’s very little that we can do to transform how we look. And how we look, though it is superficial and immutable, has a huge impact on our lives”? Why or why not?
6.
In comparing the first video to the second video, what are some of the major differences in the issues that Cameron Russell discusses in terms of beauty and young women in the United States to the issues that face young women in a country such as Malawi? Do you feel that one is more significant than the other, health-wise?

Respuesta :

1. Compared to most other countries, the USA promotes huge portion sizes of food. Super size, Big Gulps, Double quarter pounders and Hungry Man Dinners are about 2 to 3 times larger then serving sizes in most other countries which has led to an obesity epidemic.

The United States has many programs in place that encourage parents to get their kids vaccinated on time and to go to “Can be healthy “ preventative screenings and dr visits that help identify early childhood problems and illnesses

2. I would make it a law for all preteen and young teenagers to be required to get an HPV (human Pamplona virus)vaccination. By cutting the HPV off before it can be contracted, it would keep many people from getting cancers, such as cervical cancer and would practically eradicate HPV in the United States.

3. The media heavily influences the perception of beauty in our culture. About 12-15 years ago, our society put value on very slim and trim body types. This certainly affected the youth of our nation adversely by driving kids to eating disorders, excessive exercise regimens and impractical body image. Our children need to be taught that beauty is truly found within yourself and feeling good about yourself leads to better habits that lead to better self image externally

4. By the same token, recent in recent years, the media has begun to glorify thicker bodies with curves, padding and voluptuousness l. This view goes a little too far to the other extreme… it can cause poor food choices, bad exercise habits and a morphed body fantasy ie a disproportionate butt like Kim Kardashian.

This opinion has brought a ever rising onslaught of body image dysmorphia to our society. It’s exceptionally rare to naturally have a 24 inch waist and a 44 inch bust line…or butt. This drives young people to look to artificial ways of obtaining the shape they are craving such as plastic surgery, fillers, implants and injections.

5. I think it could be daunting or motivational to young girls aspiring to model. As long as a healthy inner self image exists, it could motivate. Example: Regular exercise and healthy food choices would be great ways to get a models physique so long as they are not done to excess. Natural tanning can also happen during outdoor exercise. The first and most important step is to teach healthy body image and self love very early in life life and to quiet unhealthy influences like Cameron Russell.
