I would say 1. The south never really had a great advantage over the north- they did have a lot of farms but that wasn't super helpful. The north was richer because of more factories, had better weaponry and a lot more railroad track laid.

For what it's worth though, the south also had an advantage in manpower- about 75% of their population signed up for the war, while only about 50% did from the north.
