First you set the denominator equal to zero, like so:

(x-1)(x+7) = 0

Now you can see if you make each (x-1) and (x+7) equal to zero:

x-1=0 x=1

x+7= x=-7

Excluded values:

From my understanding 1 and -7 would be the excluded values.
