Describe the situation of both white and black “share-croppers” in the 60 years following the Civil War

Respuesta :

Answer:

They were drowning in debt.

Explanation:

Sharecropping was a system that led to debt for both the farmers and landowners, but especially the farmers. They paid money to the land owner in exchange for some of the crops they farmed on the land they rented from them, but more often than not could not turn a profit from the crops do to declining prices. This meant that they would have to continue renting land to live and work despite not being able to turn a profit and falling further and further into debt, and for black people, it was much like being enslaved all over again: trapped working one farm with no money and being at the mercy of a generally white landowner.
