Music is referred to as a universal language because no matter what language you speak or where you are from, music can bring everyone together. I do agree with this assessment, music is something is is important in people's lives. It is something that lifts spirits, it can help people by making their situations relatable and help them get through tough situations.
you can think of this in two ways:
1) music is written the same pretty much everywhere. you don’t have to speak french to read music written by a french composer, for example.
2) emotions are conveyed the same way universally (at least for the most part). if the music sounds sad to an asian composer, it probably sounds sad to the french composer, too.
