in the northern hemisphere a south-facing slope (more open to sunlight and warm winds) will generally be warmer and drier due to higher levels of evaporation and transpiration than a north-facing slope. So South facing slopes are much warmer.
In the Northern Hemisphere, soil on south-facing slopes dries out faster and is warmer than soil on north-facing slopes due to longer exposure to sunlight – the opposite applies in the Southern Hemisphere.
