First, you should know that a person/institution has power over you when they can make you do something that you wouldn’t do in any other way. So, with this explained we can make our lists:  

People: your parents, when they set the rules of the house for example and a boss has power over his employers

Institutions: Congress because they create the laws, Supreme court because they judge you if you do not respect the rules.  


People that have power over me are my parents and institutions that have power over me are school and government/state.

My parents have power over me because:

  • They raised me since I was born
  • They control my decisions during my childhood and adolescence
  • They teach me the things they wanted without opposition

The school had power over me because:

  • They learned me most of the things that I know
  • They influenced behavioral aspects in me
  • They influenced my personality to last my whole life

The state has power over me because:

  • It knows many things about me such as my name, age, identification, etc
  • It has control over me because it imposes rules and laws over me
