President Barrack Obama cites the Declaration of Independence when he states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the suit of happiness." Why does he use this quote in the beginning of his speech?

He probably wanted to sound as if he were aware of the declaration and wanted to make America great but I guess he failed because Trump is the one doing the job. Hope this helps :)
