The similarities and the differences of the morphological species concept and the biological species concept are as follows:

Similarities

• Both have weaknesses, the biological species concept for example can only be used for organisms that reproduce sexually, it cannot be used to determine whether asexually reproducing groups belong to the same or different species and cannot be used to classify extinct organisms such as fossils.

While,

Differences

• Biological species concept defines species as a group of similar organisms that can interbreed and produce fertile offspring and is reproductively isolated from other groups.

• Phylogenetic species concept focuses on the differences between groups of organisms and our certainity that they have evolved from a common ancestor, focuses on their morphology, physiology, embryology and behaviour and whether they are similar or different according to whether they are the same species or different
