In other word ionic compound are formed by positively charge ion and
negatively charged ion. The positively charged ions are called cations
while the negatively charged ion are called anions.
In the case of a compound containing calcium and chlorine , the positively
charged ion is calcium and the negatively charged ions is chlorine .
The cations of calcium and anions of chlorine can be represented as follows
- Ca²⁺
- Cl¹⁻
The calcium atom donate 2 electrons to 2 atoms of chlorine to form CaCl₂.
