LABELING EXERCISE 9-1: IDENTIFYING VENIPUNCTURE PROBLEMS
One of the following illustrations shows correct needle position. The other illustrations depict venipuncture
problems. For each illustration, identify the problem depicted and write it (or correct needle position, if applicable)
on the line beneath the illustration, followed by the letter of the corrective action required from the list below.
Choices may be used more than once.

B. Discontinue the draw.
C. Disengage the tube, pull the needle back slightly,
and reengage the tube.
D. Disengage the tube, pull the needle back until
only the bevel is under the skin, anchor the vein,
redirect the needle, and reengage the tube.
