Write a diary entry from the perspective of a person who has one of the psychological disorders listed below.
Pick one of the following psychological disorders that were discussed or read about:
Dissociative fugue
Major depressive disorder
Social phobia
Schizophrenia
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Dissociative identity disorder
Antisocial personality disorder
Autism
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder-
Write a diary entry between 100 -250 words from the perspective of a person who has this psychological disorder.
In your diary, be sure to cover all the following points:
Symptoms: What symptoms does your character have as a result of the disorder, and how are those symptoms affecting the character’s life?
Causes: What does your character know about what caused the disorder? (Think about biological, psychological, and social/cultural factors.)
Treatment: What kind of treatment is your character currently undergoing for the disorder?
Prognosis: Is the treatment likely to be successful?
Personal feelings: How has your character responded emotionally to having this psychological disorder? What has been the response of your character’s family and friends?
Feel free to invent whatever life details you would like about the person. The character whose diary you are writing does not have to be like you. For instance, you could write from the perspective of someone of a different age or gender. However, your diary should be accurately based on what you have learned about psychological disorders. For example, your textbook says that schizophrenia is usually first diagnosed when people are adults. So, if you are writing the diary as a character with schizophrenia, it would be less likely that the person was diagnosed as a young child.
